Booxhibition

What is a book, and what can it be?
An exhibition as part of Vienna Design Week 2026
Vienna Design Week, Festival Headquarters, Hietzinger Kai 101, 1130 Vienna
Exhibition dates: September 25 – October 4, 2026, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
Book presentation: October 3, 2026, 4 p.m.
The exhibition “Booxhibition” brings together twelve artistic reflections from the Klasse für Ideen in Communication Design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. It demonstrates why the book remains indispensable in the age of digitization and artificial intelligence: as a medium of coherence and comprehensibility, as a public space for reason and dissent, and as a physical object that cultivates attention, time, and critical thinking. As part of a course and twelve workshops, the book was examined, deconstructed, and reassembled as both an idea and a medium—thereby updating its formal, intellectual, and social functions. The contributions invite viewers to examine and expand their own conceptions of the book.
With contributions by Dominic Duhs, Rubina Hellmich, Anne Hymer, Laura Jordan, Peter Kikl, Anna Mayer, Marisa Neubert, Felix Powondra, Elias Rudigier, Lil Steiner, Dóra Szijártó, Moritz Wizany, and Paulus M. Dreibholz.
The Booxhibition exhibition is accompanied and documented by the publication *My Idea of the Book: Twelve Artistic Reflections on the Significance of the Book in the Present *.
