Michael Conrad began his advertising career in 1968. He worked as a copywriter for Young & Rubicam Frankfurt, as a copywriter and Creative Director for Ogilvy & Mather Frankfurt and became partner of the newly established TBWA Frankfurt in 1972. In 1975, he became partner of Lürzer, Conrad Frankfurt, which merged in 1980 with Leo Burnett, later operating under the name of Michael Conrad & Leo Burnett. In 1986, he moved to Chicago, where he became President and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett International, then Vice-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett Worldwide. He retired at the beginning of 2003.
Under his leadership, 27 Leo Burnett agencies won the “Agency of the Year” award at least once in their relevant country. In 2000, Advertising Age named Leo Burnett Worldwide as “Global Agency Of The Year”.
In 2001, Leo Burnett Worldwide had won the most awards worldwide nx the Gunn Report. Michael Conrad headed many juries at local, international and global festivals; he is honorary member of ADC Germany, ADC Switzerland and ADC Europe. In 2004, he co-founded together with ADC Germany the “Berlin School of Creative Leadership” at Steinbeis University, becoming its president. Today, he lives in Zurich, is a member of the supervisory board of Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett, and also works as a consultant.
