Matthias Spaetgens
Professor Matthias Spaetgens is Head of the key creative subject Graphics and Advertising at the University of Applied Arts Vienna since September 2010. Having taken over from Professor Walter Lürzer, he is responsible for organisation and art at the Klasse.

Matthias Spaetgens is partner of and Chief Creation Officer at Scholz & Friends. He is also in charge of the Creation sector at their Berlin office. Spaetgens studied graphic design in Munich where he worked for a while as a designer. In 1997, he began his career at Scholz & Friends with stations in Hamburg, Zurich and Berlin.

With over 500 awards, Matthias Spaetgens is one of Germany’s most successful creatives. His work, among others for A. Lange & Söhne, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Loewe, Mercedes-Benz, Saturn and Weru, has received multiple awards, including over 15 Lions in Cannes and 6 times the Grand Prix at international creative festivals. Under his leadership, Scholz & Friends’ Berlin office were honoured as “Agency of the Year 2014” in the frame of the international Red Dot Award.

Spaetgens attended the international Berlin School of Creative Leadership from 2007 to 2009, graduating with an Executive MBA. He is member of CCA Austria, ADC Germany and Switzerland as well as the British D&AD.
