Matthias Koslik was born in Freiburg in the south of Germany.
At the age of twenty-two, besides his work as a freelance photographer, Koslik ran the successful commercial design studio "nonkonform", widely credited with erasing the line between "art" and "commercial" photography. He lived and worked in New York, London, HongKong, Taiwan and San Francisco before moving to Berlin where he opened his studio "beavershot productions" in 1996. 2014 till 2017 he was appointed professor of Applied Photography and Time-based Media at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
