Adnan Maral
Adnan Maral is from Frankfurt where he trained as an actor and began his career in major theatres such as Die Schaubühne and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. He became popular as a movie actor, much admired by children for his role in “Die wilden Kerle 1-3” (The Wild Guys 1- 3), and by adults for his role in “Türkisch für Anfänger” (Turkish for Beginners). That ARD production won the German TV Award in 2006 in the Best Series category, and Adnan Maral received an award for Best Main Actor. Further awards won by “Türkisch für Anfänger”: Civis Cinema Prize (2007), and the Grimme Prize for the Best Series and Best Main Actor.
In 2007, “Fay Grim” (directed by Hal Hartley) with Adnan Maral was shown at the Berlinale and Toronto Film Festival. He played the friendly Greek man In “Kebab Connection” (directed by Anno Saul), and a fundamentalist Muslim in Antonia Bird’s “Hamburg Cell” who prepared the 9/11 attack from his base in Hamburg. Adnan Maral has many faces: from open-heartedly evil to terribly open-hearted. He lives near Munich, is married and father of three.
